Neume's MCP Server: Make Songs, Change Lyrics and Reimagine Them in ChatGPT and Claude

Make songs inside your AI assistant

Neume has an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so you can make songs without leaving ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant that supports MCP. Ask for a song, and it plays right there in the chat, with its lyrics lighting up as they're sung.

Since the first version we've added a lot. Your assistant can now change the words of one part of a song and have it sung again in the same voice, make a whole song again in a new style, and (in ChatGPT) turn a hum or a voice memo you attach into a full song.

What is MCP?

MCP is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to outside services. Once Neume is connected, you tell your assistant what you want in plain words and it uses Neume's tools for you: it writes the lyrics with you, makes the song, and shows it to you in the chat.

What you can do

Make a song

Describe the song you want, or paste your own lyrics. Your assistant writes the lyrics if you didn't bring any, shows them to you, and makes the song once you're happy with them. Each request makes one song.

In ChatGPT and Claude the song shows up as a card: a progress bar while it's being made (usually about a minute), then a player with the cover, title and style, a seek bar, and the lyrics highlighted line by line as they're sung. The card has Change lyrics and Reimagine buttons, and More → Open in Neume to open the song in the app.

Change the lyrics of one part

Not happy with a line? Ask your assistant to change it. It looks up the song's parts (verse 1, chorus 2 and so on) and the lines sung in each, writes the new lines with you, and once you agree, Neume sings that part again in the same voice. The melody and the rest of the song stay as they are.

A change covers between 5 and 30 seconds of the song. If you only want to change a single short line, the line next to it is sung again too, with its own words. Each change makes a new song, so your original is always kept.

Reimagine a song in a new style

Ask for the same song as an acoustic ballad, a trap beat or a 1980s funk track. Neume makes the whole song again in that style with its own words, or with new words if you give them. Your original is kept.

Make a song from audio you attach (ChatGPT)

In ChatGPT you can attach an audio file: a hum, a voice memo, or a recording of a song. Neume listens to it and can then:

• Sing it again in the style you choose. This is the best way to turn a hummed idea into a full song. A hum has no words, so your assistant writes lyrics with you first.
• Follow its melody in a new song with your lyrics.
• Take its sound, making a new song with the same feel.
• Change the words of one part of a song you uploaded, the same way as above.

Audio uploads work in ChatGPT only, because ChatGPT is the assistant that can pass files to a connected app.

Find and play your songs

Ask for your songs and you get a list you can play from, newest first. Every song you make through your assistant is saved to your Neume account, so it's also in the Neume app and on app.neume.io.

Your assistant picks the right tool for what you ask. You never need to name them, but here's the full list:

How to connect Neume

What you'll need

• A Neume account (sign up at app.neume.io)
• An assistant that supports MCP: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf and others

Claude

1. In claude.ai or the Claude app, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
2. Name it “Neume” and enter the URL https://api.neume.io/v1/mcp.
3. Press Connect and sign in with your Neume account.
4. Start a new chat and ask for a song.

ChatGPT

The Neume app for ChatGPT is in review for ChatGPT's app directory. Once it's listed, add it from Settings → Apps, search for Neume, connect it and sign in with your Neume account.

Cursor, Windsurf and other MCP clients

• Server URL: https://api.neume.io/v1/mcp
• Transport: Streamable HTTP
• Sign-in: OAuth. Your client asks you to sign in with your Neume account the first time.

The tools work in any MCP client. The song cards with the player show up in assistants that support MCP Apps, like ChatGPT and Claude; elsewhere you get the song details and a link instead.
